The Impact Goal

Pınar Dairy first joined Business Call to Action in 2017 with a commitment to train 1250 small-scale milk farmers in Turkey, increasing their milk yields by 7% and decreasing costs by 5%.

In 2021, Pınar Dairy renewed its membership with a commitment to deliver trainings to 750 farmers, at least a third of whom are women farmers, on increasing productivity and financial literacy by the end of 2022.

The Market Gap

Milk and milk products have an important place in human health and nutrition. Turkey has become a leading country of milk and milk products with approximately 6.5 million dairy cattle and increased product quantity from each animal.

In this context, the expense of feed and modern equipment for milk production hampers small-scale farmers’ chances of competing with the larger industrial players in the market. Milk production for small-scale farmers is also affected by animal health problems due to a lack of health services and appropriate hygiene conditions.

The Business Solution

Believing that training on quality milk production processes can help small-scale Turkish dairy farmers overcome their challenges and remain competitive, Pınar Dairy has been supporting them since the company was founded in 1973. Through its initiative “The Future of our Milk is in Safe Hands”, Pınar trains dairy farmers on animal health, animal feeding, calf care and feeding, hygiene/sanitation and financial literacy, in cooperation with the Directorates of Provincial Agriculture and Forestry, universities (Ankara University and Afyon Kocatepe University), dairy unions, and cooperatives.

The initiative is based on three-sided benefit principle as “Contribution to the Producer”, “Contribution to the Company” and “Contribution to the Society”. Through the project, the producers receive informative trainings to keep their livestock healthier and better carry out the raw milk productions, which leads to higher quality, and productive milk production. Providing high quality raw milk means more quality milk and more quality products derived from milk, thus contributing to the success of the company. The inputs from the training have led to improved quality of the raw milk in milk and milk products thus contributing to the protection of public health.

About Pınar Dairy : Pınar Dairy  is a leading Turkish dairy and food brand. The company works with small-scale milk farmers across Turkey, offering trainings in improving productivity and quality of milk and ultimately decreasing costs and increasing yields.
