Social Enterprise Nafa Naana joined Business Call to Action in September 2019 with a commitment to provide access to clean energy equipment to 100,000 vulnerable people (mostly women) living in conditions of energy insecurity  in rural Burkina Faso by 2023.
Cookstove demonstration

Today, about 40 percent of the world’s population still cook over open fires or use fuel-inefficient cookstoves. This has not only a significant economic burden on low income people. It also negatively impacts their health and the environment by creating indoor household air pollution. In Sub-Saharan Africa, 300 million tons of wood are burned for cooking every year.

This is the case also in Burkina Faso where people are not aware of the sanitary, environmental and economic consequences of bad cooking and lighting habits. In many rural and suburban areas, a very low rate of access to electricity (1% in rural areas) and unclean and ineffective cooking and lighting habits. These populations do not have easy access to modern cooking and lighting solutions. When they do have access to these solutions, they often face a cost barrier due to their low income.

To tackle this problem, Nafa Naana has to date marketed over 60,000 clean and cost saving cooking and lighting products through adistribution channel composed largely of women. Nafa Naana has established partnerships with 180 key accounts partners, including federations and associations of women, producers and professionals, and has also collaborated with the social microfinance institution Yikri to offer credit aimed at facilitating the purchase of clean and cost saving cooking and lighting equipment. Nafa Naana has also created a network of technical partners such as GIZ/FAFASO in the FAFASO project for improved stove use in Burkina Faso, whose objective is the popularization of improved stoves.

Nafa Naana's broad product range includes improved stoves, gas fireplaces, as well as solar lamps and solar kits and caters to all budgets and needs.

About Nafa Naana: Nafa Naana is a social enterprise that promotes and broadcasts clean and effective energy equipment for the benefit of the populations of Burkina Faso through the implementation of financial services from production to distribution of the equipment.
