Transforming our World: The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development
Following on the progress of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), which helped more than 700 million people escape poverty over the past 15 years, the global community is about to embark on what Secretary General Ban Ki-moon refers to as a “universal, transformative and integrated agenda that heralds an historic turning point for our world.”
On 2 August, the UN’s 193 Member States agreed to an ambitious agenda comprised of 17 new Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that aim to end poverty, promote prosperity and people’s well-being while protecting the environment by 2030. Read about the Sustainable Development Goals.
To be formally adopted by world leaders at a special summit to be held in New York from 25 to 27 September, the 17 Sustainable Development Goals and 169 targets aim at tackling key systemic barriers to sustainable development such as inequality, unsustainable consumption and production patterns, inadequate infrastructure and lack of decent jobs.
Inclusive business has the potential to be a driving force for inclusion and sustainability and to contribute to the effective implementation and impact of the SDGs. BCtA seeks to accelerate progress toward the achievement of these goals by encouraging and promoting inclusive business that supports the economic and social development of those living at the base of the economic pyramid.
