2010 BCtA Member Progress Update

Over the past decade, the role of the private sector as an engine of growth and development has become widely recognized. “Inclusive business models” are sustainable business solutions that expand access to goods, services, and livelihood opportunities for low-income communities. Since 2008, companies have joined the Business Call to Action (BCtA) by making significant commitments to harness core operations for sustainable development outcomes.

Expected cumulative results of BCtA initiatives:

BCtA member companies are required to report on the progress of their initiatives on an annual basis. The next round of reporting begins February 1, 2012.

Reports enable the Secretariat to track progress of commitments, aggregate results across markets and sectors, and develop appropriate knowledge products for companies. By collecting and sharing results, the BCtA aims to:

  • Improve practice

  • Encourage other companies to develop these types of models

  • Demonstrate that the private sector can support achievement of the MDGs in a commercially sustainable way
